Slap in the face: the Jackass boys bring their brand of mayhem back to the big screen
Slap in the face: the Jackass boys bring their brand of mayhem back to the big screen

Johnny Knoxville is back on the big screen this month playing the titular Bad Grandpa in the latest instalment of the Jackass franchise. Knoxville and pals cast off the dopey daredevil antics that helped to cement their stardom and instead mine their LOLs from people's real-life reactions to his octogenarian alter ego. It looks like a lot of fun, and in its honour join us as we look back over some of the best stunts from the previous three films. As you might expect some of these are brutal, disgusting and downright dangerous; so remember kids: don't try this at home.

Warning: these clips contain multiple uses of adult language and features stunts that should not be replicated or viewed by minors.

Rocket Skates
As seen in: Jackass: The Movie (2002)

Come on, who doesn't think rocket-powered roller skates are cool? MTV apparently, as they refused to let Knoxville air this particularly hare-brained stunt on the small screen. Nevertheless their loss was cinemagoers' gain; though judging by the explosive finale, we can kind of see their point.

Electric Avenue
As seen in: Jackass 3D (2010)

In terms of sheer stupidity this clip from Jackass 3D takes some beating. You can tell it's a bad idea by the look on Bam Margera's face, an expression that suggests he'd rather be kicked in the crotch a thousand times rather than run a gauntlet filled with hanging tasers and whirling dervishes of pain.

Anaconda Ball Pit
As seen in: Jackass Number Two (2006)

Ahhh ball pools, the sphere-filled theatre of dreams from our childhoods that messrs Knoxville, Dunn and Wee Man manage to transform into a nightmare thanks to an errant anaconda that they're attempting to fish out of the fluorescent mire.

Golf carts
As seen in: Jackass The Movie (2002)

Considering he's been shot at, charged by a bull and tased, who'd have thought that it was the humble golf cart that'd almost put paid to Johnny Knoxville's pranking? That's exactly what happened in this stunt, when a high-speed crash almost turned Knoxville's skull into a pile of mush. Fortunately he only ended up with a concussion, and an awesome clip to put in his movie - but mainly the concussion bit.

Big Red Rocket
As seen in: Jackass Number Two (2006)

In the history of bad ideas this stunt from the Jackass crew's sophomore outing ranks right up there with the Crazy Frog song and the invention of twerking. The premise is pretty simple really: dress up like Evel Knievel, strap yourself to a giant rocket and let the good times roll. It's a great idea, or it would be were it not for the explosives Johnny Knoxville has strapped just below his, erm, sexy bits.

High Five
As seen in: Jackass 3D (2010)

It's not big, or clever; but the sight of a giant hand cleaning people's clocks is one of the funniest things you'll ever see.

Golf Course Air Horn
As seen in: Jackass: The Movie (2002)

Sometimes the Jackass gang are at their most effective when they're not risking life and limb but when they're just being jerks. And so it is this clip of Knoxville and his cronies putting golfers off their strokes with an extremely loud air horn ranks as one of their funniest skits - there's even a sting in the tale as one unhappy swinger aims his 7 Iron right at the camera, only to be honked off his stroke once more.

Pin The Tail On The Donkey
As seen in: Jackass 3D (2010)

The first rule of comedy is that there's nothing funnier than a man getting hit in the groin – unless of course you're on the receiving end of the comic collision. It's a point that's once again proved here as the crew play a very real – and very dangerous – game of pin the tail on the donkey.

Parking A Toy Car
As seen in: Jackass: The Movie (2002)

Ryan Dunn sadly died in a car crash in 2011, but he'll be remembered thanks to some of the outlandish antics he committed to film. Antics like this toy car prank which might just be the most outrageous scene in Jackass: The Movie – and that's saying something. We're not sure why anyone in their right mind would agree to visit the doctor after voluntarily shoving a toy car where the sun doesn't shine. But the look on the nurse's face when she examines the x-ray goes some way to explaining it.

Jet Engine
As seen in: Jackass 3D (2010)

You've got to love the creativity on display in this jet-powered prank from Jackass 3D. It's not enough simply to stand in the wash from a jet engine - no, that wouldn't be funny enough. Instead they decide to submit Ryan Dunn and friends to some hilarious skits, which involve, amongst other things, a waiter, a wing suit and tomatoes being fired at high speed.

The Fish Hook
As seen in: Jackass Number Two (2006)

Ever wondered what a good bait for catching sharks is? Fortunately for perennially naked prankster Steve-O it doesn't seem to be human flesh as he finds out after diving into the Gulf of Mexico. Still, the idea of swimming with hungry sharks is only part of what makes this stunt so stomach-churning; the other comes right at the off when the aforementioned madman shoves a fish hook through the side of his gob just for kicks.

Alligator Tightrope
As seen in: Jackass: The Movie (2002)

More Steve-O, and this time the professional idiot attempts to recreate Roger Moore's alligator run from Live and Let Die, only naked, on a tightrope and with raw chicken hanging from his undies. Take that Bond!
