In a rare moment of actual humour the former Beatles drummer Ringo "peace and love, peace and love" Starr once japed that the luggage carousel at John Lennon Airport should be named after him.
Rather excellently, though, news reaches us that legendary DJ John Peel is to be posthumously honoured by having a train on the Merseytravel rail network named after him.
Ian Prowse, from the group Amsterdam, will perform at the ceremony what was one of Peel's favourite songs - Does This Train Stop On Merseyside? Peel's widow Sheila Ravenscroft told the BBC: "John just loved the song. He always became emotional when he played it. He wasn't capable of playing it without crying. If he played it on the radio he'd have to put something on straight afterwards because he wouldn't be able to speak. When he played it at home, he'd always need a cuddle afterwards."
This sort of thing has happened before of course - several years ago a Class 47 Diesel owned by Cotswold Rail was christened Joe Strummer after the deceased Clash singer.
