Ideas for the new Walking Dead spin-off show

US channel AMC has confirmed that zombie apocalyptic drama The Walking Dead is set to have its own spin-off series in 2015. To be honest, between shows like Waking The Dead and the coming-soon Talking To The Dead, I always thought it had about a dozen spin-off shows already.

But no. Producers of the hit, gory programme have said that they want to "build on the success" of the show with an entirely new set of characters in the same scenario. AMC President and General Manager Charlie Collier said "It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse."

Meanwhile, comic-book creator Robert Kirkman said "I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of the Walking Dead universe."

So, the new show will tell us the tale of a group of survivors fending against an onslaught of zombies in a post-apocalyptic world. It all sounds… well, a bit like The Walking Dead, doesn’t it?

Here are some ways they can spice up the new show, based on existing spin-off ideas.

The Carl Grimes Adventures

Following the same formula as The Sarah Jane Adventures, AMC can take the most family-friendly character from The Walking Dead and create an all-new kid-friendly, pre-watershed show. In this version, Carl and his gang of friends fend off zombies with supersoakers and skateboards. Good, all-round family entertainment.

The Celebrity Walking Dead

Just like Celebrity Big Brother, this show would follow the same rules as the original, but following the adventures of C-list, D-list and World War Z-list celebrities instead. Just imagine watching Kerry Katona firing a shotgun blast at a corpse’s head at poink blank range. Or Abz from Five stabbing a screwdriver into a zombie’s eye socket. Brilliant fun.

The Psychoanalysing Dead

Just as Frasier was a popular spin-off show from Cheers, we could see a sitcom focusing on a popular radio psychiatrist trying to provide help and advice for zombies’ issues and life problems. Oh, who am I kidding, I just want to see a zombified Kelsey Grammar say "Oh for God’s sake, Niles!" with a half-flapping-off jaw.

The Walking Dead: The Next Generation

Following in Star Trek’s footsteps, this series will be set in the future, seeing our new, young and hip group of survivors defeat zombies with ray guns and spaceships. The zombies will be pretty much the same as before, but will just smell a lot worse.

Rick

In a prequel to the show, we get to find out what Rick Grimes was like before the undead wreaked havoc on the world. We would basically follow Rick in his sheriff duties, investigating parking violations and sorting out domestic issues. Granted, this sounds a lot less exciting than the original show.
