Peggy Mitchell is set to make a comeback visit to Albert Square in a forthcoming special episode of EastEnders.
The family-oriented landlady – played by Barbara Windsor – will be returning to the soap this autumn when she learns that son Phil is in a dire situation and needs her help.
Talking about the comeback appearance, Windsor said "It is no secret how much I have always loved EastEnders and Peggy Mitchell, and by the number of times I'm constantly stopped by the great British public and asked either 'When are you coming back?' or 'Please say, get out of my pub', it seems they have too.
"It may only be a short visit, but it's a family matter and as Peggy always said, 'It's all about family'."
Windsor left the show in 2010 after 15 years of playing Peggy Mitchell. Her exit saw the character leave Walford after realising it was the best thing she could do to make Phil sort his life out. Peggy is said to have since been living in Portugal.
EastEnders producers have promised that Peggy’s return will be part of a “huge autumn” for the show. With Samantha Womack set to return as Ronnie and Roxy’s impending marriage to Alfie, it seems like all eyes will be on the Mitchell clan with no doubt all kinds of drama unfolding in these storylines.
In any case, here’s hoping that, when Peggy comes back, she sorts everyone right out, good and proper.
